The Jeep Wrangler YJ is the first generation Wrangler offered by Jeep. The YJ comes directly from Jeep’s CJ-7, with some small updates for improved comfort, handling, and safety.

The Wrangler YJ came with 3 different engines – the AMC 4.2L I6, AMC 4.0L I6, and AMC 2.5L I4. The 4.2L was only available until 1990, with the 4.0L becoming available in 1991.
To increase safety and to ease drivers, the Wrangler YJ came with trackbar suspension links and stabilizer bars for improved handling and cornering. This was important, since earlier CJ’s had been rumored to be more likely to flip than a normal vehicle and could’ve put a lot of people off.
